Algernon Lee diary and notes, 1890-1915.

Lee's copies of entries (ca. 1890-1906) from his diaries, which he is believed to have later destroyed, with his comments on the entries and a few subsequent notes on philosophical and historical topics. They give information on his personal life and studies, on his work for the Populist and Socialist parties as a high school and college student, and on his acquaintance with such Socialist leaders as George B. Leonard. Lee later became a Socialist writer and educational director (1909-1954) of the Rand School of Social Science. Typed copy.

George Leonard was born in Shovlu, Lithuania (Feb. 9, 1872), the son of Victor Leonard and Tauve Melnick. After receiving a gymnasium education, he moved to Paris, in part to avoid Czarist persecution for his socialist views.
